Marine Recycling Corporation joins Green Marine

April 23, 2024

Port Colborne, ON — Marine Recycling Corporation (MRC), a global leader in marine asset dismantling and demolition, is the newest participant in Green Marine, the leading voluntary environmental certification program for North America’s maritime industry. The company is initially certifying its Ontario shipyard and plans to add shipyards in Nova Scotia and British Columbia to the program later.

MRC has a thorough understanding of marine salvage and wreck removal, ship towing and vessel recycling, having demonstrated these services consistently over multiple decades with all types and sizes of vessels for commercial, military and government assets.

Jordan Elliott, MRC’s President, emphasized the company's dedication to sustainable development. “As the World’s first ship recycling company to be ISO 14001 certified, which has been case since December 2000, MRC believes that all vessels should be recycled properly, without negative environmental impacts or unnecessary safety risks,” he said. “By joining Green Marine, we’re aligning the program’s dedication to making continual environmental improvements in substantiated ways with our own vision and values for doing this essential marine work with a minimal footprint.”

David Bolduc, Green Marine’s President, welcomed MRC with enthusiasm. “We're delighted to have MRC within Green Marine, knowing this company will bring substantial expertise in sustainable shipyard practices to our participants,” he said. “By joining Green Marine, MRC will also have access to a step-by-step process for setting and achieving even more ambitious yet still realistic goals for raising the bar for all shipyard operations.”

To obtain the Green Marine certification, MRC will assess its environmental performance through indicators that address issues such as greenhouse gases and air pollutants, spill prevention and stormwater management, waste management, and community impacts and relations. The certification process is rigorous and transparent, with results independently verified every two years and each participant's individual performance made public annually.
