Two-day conference on ocean science and technology

February 22, 2018

ORCA 2018, the initial Oceans Research in Canada Alliance (ORCA) gathering will focus on improved coordination of ocean-related science and technology (S&T) in Canada through superior collective knowledge, aligned efforts, and stronger collaborative ties. The free event will take place April 24-25 at the Shaw Centre in Ottawa. The inaugural gathering aims include:

  • Advancing initiatives that drive Canada’s ocean S&T research and focus;
  • Sharing ideas in cross-sectoral dialogue on S&T issues and Canada’s ocean priorities;
  • Establishing collaborative and coordinated opportunities.

The ORCA Community of Practice is an important new Canadian ocean S&T forum that was launched in November 2017. All members of Canada’s ocean S&T community are welcome. Members participate in setting up initiatives, sharing information, discussing priority issues, and connecting with the larger ocean science community. Membership reflects Canada’s diverse ocean S&T community and includes people from all ocean-related science disciplines in academic institutions, government departments, granting agencies, non-governmental organizations, Indigenous groups, and industry.
