Green Marine received the Association québécoise du transport et des routes’ Environment Award at the AQTR’ s Excellence in Transportation Awards Gala, held last night at Le Capitole de Québec.
Green Marine is a voluntary initiative with the goal of continuously improving the environmental performance of the marine industry. The Environment Award recognizes an original, coherent, reproducible environmental project, which uses effective measuring tools to reduce transportation impacts on the environment thereby promoting sustainable development.
Green Marine received the award due to the rigor and transparency of the environmental program’s certification process and its actual impact on the environmental performance of its participants. “Green Marine has served as spark plug and allowed to focus the energies and efforts of all who wanted to make maritime transport more environmentally friendly,” said Green Marine Executive Director, David Bolduc. The results steadily rising and the explosion of membership reflect on the relevance of such a program.”
Green Marine has just concluded its fifth annual environmental conference, Green Tech 2012, which was held in Quebec on May 29 & 30. The participants’ results for 2011 were unveiled and demonstrated once again improved environmental performance. The environmental program evaluates the shipowners, ports, terminals and shipyards with respect to nine priority environmental issues, such as invasive species, air emissions, greenhouse gas emissions, water and land pollution prevention and environmental leadership. All individual results are published in the Green Marine annual report and on its website.
“This AQTR Award reflects on all Green Marine participants,” said Mr. Bolduc. They are the ones investing the necessary resources in time, energy and money on a daily basis to develop best practices, exceed regulatory compliance and strive for environmental excellence.”
The Environment Award is a great recognition of the efforts of an entire industry to take responsibility for reducing its environmental footprint. Green Marine has a growing international reputation and has received the prestigious Green Initiative of the Year at Sustainable Shipping Awards 2011 in London last July.Back to news
