Green Marine is gaining in popularity and relevance on the East Coast with the arrival of the Port of Halifax among its members. The Port of Halifax is joining a boasting group of East Coast participants like Atlantic Towing, Saint John Port Authority, SVITZER Canada and Oceanex. Established in 2007, Green Marine is now a truly North American program, with participants coast to coast, in Canada and the United States.

For the Port of Halifax, joining the Green Marine environmental program was a natural step says George Malec, Vice-President Business Development and Operations. ”Environment has been an important issue for us for a long time. The Halifax Port Authority is committed to conducting itself as a responsible member of the local community. We have created a system to manage our environmental performance to prevent and minimize pollution and it has been certified ISO 14001. The transparency and rigor of Green Marine will allow us to show our performance both to the industry and the population and guide us towards improvement.”

Green Marine’s Executive Director, David Bolduc, welcomes the Port of Halifax and praises the raised awareness it will bring to the program : ”The Port encourages environmental stewardship by setting positive environmental performance examples for other users of the Port to follow. Them joining the program will allow us to move forward with added credibility and representativeness.”
