SVITZER Canada boosts Green Marine East Coast membership

Halifax, September 29, 2011 – SVITZER Canada, a leading provider of towage, salvage and emergency response services, becomes the newest shipowner to join Green Marine’s environmental program.

Based in Halifax, SVITZER Canada has operated on the East Coast of Canada and in the Great Lakes region for over 80 years. Green Marine is pleased to see the addition of this seven-tugboat fleet to its program, which is gaining in popularity on the East Coast.

SVITZER Canada is a branch of SVITZER A/S, an international company headquartered in Denmark that operates a fleet of more than 500 vessels worldwide. John Neatby, SVITZER Canada General Manager of Operations, commented: ”Compliance with national as well as international legislation and conventions is a natural part of the way we run our company. At SVITZER, we believe in sustainability and endeavor to protect the environment through waste reduction, energy efficiency and pollution prevention.” As an example, SVITZER A/S has commissioned two ECO tugs which are expected to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 by some 10 percent – and NOX by approximately 70-80 percent, thereby meeting the IMO Tier III requirements.

David Bolduc, Green Marine’s Executive Director, said SVITZER Canada’s participation is another step in consolidating the program’s presence on the East Coast. ”We’re pleased to welcome a company that is well-known for its commitment to the environment, here and worldwide. It sends a clear message on our environmental program’s credibility and relevance.”
