GREEN MARINE TECHNOLOGy FORUM

The concept:

See the Environmental Program of the St. Lawrence & Great Lakes Maritime Industry, under Research & Development  (page 52).

In partnership with the research community (applied and academic), interested government, departments, associations, maritime companies, classification societies, shipyards, technology providers and the Canadian Society of Maritime Engineers, launch a technology forum in which invited developers could periodically present their new technologies. This would provide participants with an opportunity to ask pertinent questions and to benefit from one another’s expertise, with a view to gauging interest in the presented technology and identifying its potential limits with respect to specific applications. Such a process would serve as both a window and a forum, and ultimately help save time in the evaluation, improvement and adoption of new environmental technologies.

The process:

  • Interested developers should apply by completing an application form that identifies the target users of the technology, the processes and trials already undertaken and the partnerships sought.
  • A screening committee will vet and prioritize the applications.
  • An abstract (500 to 1,000 words) will be developed with the selected applicant and posted online as part of the GreenTech agenda.
  • The Forum organizers will prime/rehearse selected applicants ahead of time.
  • On the actual day of the Forum, each presenter will have 15 minutes for his or her presentation, followed by a full round-table discussion with attendees (30 minutes). A moderator/master of ceremonies will manage these discussions.
  • Specialized press will be invited to attend.
  • All of this will last about 45 minutes, with the possibility of additional private meetings afterwards.
  • The Green Marine Management Corporation will follow up with the presenters within the month after the event, to assess the relevancy and usefulness of the Forum concept and format and to refine and adjust it for the next edition. It will also prepare feedback forms to be completed by attendees at the end of the public session.
