Short sea shipping (SSS) is recognized as efficient, safe, and low-polluting. SSS is the ideal solution to traffic congestion, safety, and preservation problems as well as environmental issues such as greenhouse gas emissions.

Green Marine supporters encourage the sustainable development approach adopted by the marine industry. Supporters include governments, municipalities, communities or environmental groups which support the Green Marine environmental program either symbolically or through the provision of services.
