In coming years, it will be adapted to better reflect industry
realities and long term development goals.
Followup
The Green Marine program addresses six environmental issues that are top priority for the industry: invasive aquatic species, air pollution emissions, greenhouse gases, cargo residues, oily water, and use conflicts in ports and terminals. These issues were selected according to their environmental impact. In the near future, other issues will be added to this list to reduce even more the environmental impact of marine industry activities.
In the first implementation phase, the program is based on self-evaluation. Participants evaluate their environmental performance for each of the six priority issues. The short-term goal is to adopt an external third-party audit system.
Progress made is then published in an annual report. Thus, Green Marine allows the public, political and economic decision makers and businesses to see for themselves the environmental progress made by participants.
