BC Ferries to convert two vessels to cleaner fuel

BC Ferries has awarded a $140 million contract to Remontowa Ship Repair in Gdansk, Poland to convert two of its spirit class vessels to operate on liquefied natural gas or diesel.  The conversion which is expects to be completed in 2019 will reduce BC Ferries CO2 emissions by 12,000 tonnes annually. Fortis BC Energy Inc. is contributing up to $10 million to help with the conversion as it is expected the company will supply BC Ferries with LNG from its new plant on Tilbury Island.
